In 1969 Buchan was acquired by the construction company Fairclough and the two manufacturing operations were brought together under the Buchan name to produce pre-cast concrete exclusively.
Over the next 20 years, Buchan gained a reputation as a premier manufacturer of pre-cast concrete for the civil engineering market. By the 1990s it had secured contracts in Egypt, Denmark and America as well as in the UK. Around this time Buchan also began to explore the design facet of the business, developing individual solutions for specific customer requirements.
Over the next few years national initiatives to modularise construction and take work off site were introduced and a new demand for pre-cast concrete developed within the building industry. Traditionally, 100% of Buchan's work was within civil engineering, but as these new demands emerged, Buchan responded by targeting building construction. Today, over 80% of Buchan's business is in this sector.
Over the last 60 years Buchan has developed as one of the largest pre-cast concrete solution providers in the UK with a turnover of over £30 million. The company can list all the major UK contractors among its clients and has a reputation for a cost-effective, dependable service.
Today, Buchan is known as a specialist in the design, manufacture and installation of its unique range of FASTCAST™ buildings, bathroom pods, terracing, bridges & gantries and underground solutions, factory engineered to exceed client expectations, time and again.
